Preliminary-Evaluation-Question Seven

Looking forward towards your main task, what do you feel you have learnt about the production process that will help you as you approach the full product?

I feel that the development for the preliminary task was okay but I did come across some mistakes that I personally made as I went along. I have found that time management was a key element for the completion of the task. As I progressed throughout the task I felt as though I was behind schedule and this was due to the fact I had a lack of urgency to get my photography complete quickly and as soon as possible.

I believe that this affected my final product a lot and also feel that if i had given myself a time plan to follow in order to complete all tasks at the correct time I would have produced a product to a much higher standard. The one thing I feel that I would have wanted to change is the photos that I have used. I feel that this also affected the fine details which I would have been able to review with peers and my teachers such as, using a professional boarder line and using photography with students in to make the overall product look more attractive. I have learnt a lot about the production process also throughout this preliminary task.

One of the biggest contributes to this is the fact that this was the first year in which I have studied Media and have there for never come across a production process before. I have learnt about all of the steps that are necessary to create a professional standard magazine. I feel as though this absence of knowledge has affected me during the preliminary task but as i have now obtained this I will take this into the main task and use everything I have learnt from the preliminary task.

Preliminary-Evaluation-Question Six

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Below is a PowerPoint presentation that I created to explain how I discovered and learned about new technologies in which I obtained new skills. Also how I developed these skills throughout the Preliminary task through, Research, Pre-Production, Development and Post-Production. Also how this is the first year that I have studied 'Media' and there for had very limited knowledge and expierence with using 'Media' software. Throughout the powerpoint I will explain in detail how and what skills I have picked up from the Preliminary task.

Preliminary-Evaluation-Question Five

How did you attract/address your audience?

Below is a link taking you to a 'Prezi' presentation that I have created displaying the answer to the question above:

Preliminary-Evaluation-Question Four

Who would be the audience for your medi product?

The audience I feel that would be attracted to my magazine are students due to the feedback that I got from peers. The videos below display these comments which I obtained from peers on my front cover and contents page. The comments which i got from students gave me the impression that they would enjoy reading this magazine, as they seemed attracted to the style.

Preliminary-Evaluation-Question Three

What kind of institution might distribute your media product and why?

The magazine which I created and produced, I feel as though it would be distrubuted by Trinity school. This is because it was specificly designed to use features from Trinity school such as the Trinity logo, the sports field and the masthead itself is based around Trinity school.

I also feel as though this magazine would be distrubuted from the Sports department of Trinity school due to the fact of the iconic key image of a P.E student. The background is also one that is of a sporting icon as it displays a sports field. All of the cover lines are of sporting events and this suggests that the distrubtution will be of a sporting facility such as the P.E department.

Preliminary-Evaluation-Question Two

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Below is the link that to the prezi presentation. It shows how the the final versions represents its particular social group and target audience.

Preliminary-Evaluation-Question One

In what ways does your media product use , devlop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products

Through evaluating proffesional magazines and comparing the codes and conventions of the magazine that I produced against these profesional magazines, I have managed to produced a powerpoint presentation on how my product uses these codes and conventions.

Front Cover (Proffesional)
Front Cover (My Production)

Contents Page(Proffesional)

Contents (My Production)

Overall I feel as though my media product follows many codes and convetions of a proffesional magazine due to attributes such as the use of a masthead, coverlines and iconic images.

Developmental Drafts-Preliminary-Task-Front Cover Draft

Front Cover Developmental Draft/Self Evaluation & Peer Evaluation

When creating my first developmental draft, this is what I came up with. I am going to evaluate it myself and also get my peers to evaluate it so that I can imporve my first draft and make it more attractive for what the audience wants. I will find out what improvements are needed from my peers and use there ideas within my second draft/Final version. I will also keep the ideas which the audience thinks are good and attractive to make my final draft the best possible.

Kieran Cottingham

Although the layout of the product it self is appealing and follows the codes and conventions of a magazine. The images that are placed on the bottom left of the front cover could be moved further left so that the key image is not covered by them. Also the cover-lines on the right of the key image could be moved further to the right to follow the codes and conventions of a magazine. The font colours and font style used are suitable as they stand out form the background of the magazine making it easy for the audience to read.

Harry Stone

I think that Kieran's magazine layout is very effective. It is clear and attractive to the audience, which I think would influence them into reading his magazine. I like how Kieran has put an outline around the masthead, I think that it improves the appeal to the audience. I think that the borders around the pictures are very effective as they split them from the rest of the copy and make them stand out. I think that Kieran could improve his work by changing the colour of the copy, a suitable colour that could used is white with a red outline, the same as the masthead. At this moment in time the copy is lost in the red, making it hard to see, which could detere the audience from reading the magazine. Overall, I think that the layout of the cover page is good, if he was to make the slight alterations, I believe that his work would improve and the magazine would appeal to the audience more.

Kayleigh Roberts

I think that this product has some good points, these are things such as; the front cover is not over-crowded. It is also clear to read the information, this is because of the font colours and style that are used. This also makes it easy to read the information that is being displayed. I like the use of the 'free' sticker because this is what you see on many professional magazines that are free. One bad element on this front cover is that the photos and the text is overlapping the main focus of the background image.

Developmental Drafts-Preliminary-Task-Contents Draft

Contents Developmental Draft

When creating my first developmental draft for contents page, this is what I produced.

The layout of the first developmental product is suitable as it is clear to the audience each different article and the images are deffined by the number that is placed on them which is placed by the article itself aswell. In the bottom left hand courner of the contents development draft there is some dead space and this does not follow the codes and conventions of a magazine. It also makes that part of the draft look boring and unattractive, this could be solved by simpling adding an attractive icon which could also be iconography for sport or winter due to the fact it is a winter edition.

Harry Stone

I really like the layout of the contents page, it is effective and attractive to the audience because it follows the codes and conventions of a contents page. The images that he has used are attractive and influence the audience into using the magazine. I do however feel that the pictures could be more vibrant, or made to stand out more. This could be done by adding a shadow or a white outline so that it stands out on the black background. I do like the background, the snowflakes make the background intriguing. The masthead could also be made more  attractive, at the moment I feel that it is quite boring, a different colour would improve this. However I do like the effect of the shadow behind the masthead, which makes it eyecatching.

Kayleigh Roberts

I really like the layout of this page as it is not too crowded and also there is not too much text, the images are clear and suitable and the background is effective. Another good point about this draft is the mirrored text at the top right hand corner, I think that is very effective and it draws attention. One bad point is that there is a small gap in the bottom left hand corner that could be filled with either more text or a picture.

Drafting-Preliminary-Task-Drafting of Contents

These are the drafts that were produced for my initial ideas of a school contents page. I used the analysis of my real contents pages whilst drafting as it gave me the codes & conventions of a magazine to include during my drafting and ideas such as wrapping contents information around a image which I took from a game website. The three drafts that I have done will help me when making my first real draft as I will take the best ideas from each of my drafts.

Draft 1

Draft 2

Draft 3

The draft that i have chosen to use as my final draft, which be used as a template for the creation of the final product will be draft 1. I have chosen this for my final contents because i feel that it is the one that would display clearly what is on each page with an image and text. The text is split apart appropraitly and will make it easier to read for the audience of my magazine.
